jax is a collective of like-minded artists, musicians, thinkers movers and booty-shakers, who believe there is more to records than just some grooves engraved into black plastic. their vision is to treat each release as a presentation in itself, complete with original and individual artwork, features and an exhibition. each production will feature artwork shown in a cube of about 8 cubic meters. every record-released will be strictly-limited to 500 copies, which includes a poster referencing the piece made by the artist! daniel roth was born in seeheim near frankfurt. he started to experiment with different styles of electronical music using an akai mpc and a juno 106 in 1997. by this time he wasnt thinking of making music his profession. he then started his studies in skulpturing at the städel in frankfurt. after having finished art school he took up producing music again, influenced by his art and contemporary dance music styles. with his jax release he showcases his ability to combine different elements with his unique touch.

south of croydon raised christian sibthorpe (aka a1 bassline) sent over a few things over the last 12 months that really had me paying attention. but it was jessica (j. phlip) ended up being the first one to drop falsehood at the spring dirtybird party in sf which pretty much sealed the deal. it just smashed the room to bits. later on i met christian in person when he helped me do a live radio show at rinse fm in london along with ben westbeech and we agreed there that dirtybird would put these two tracks out.a1 claims to have been heavily influenced by early metalheadz and you can really here it on these tunes. while buoyancy is a smooth pulsing affair that really shines in the deeper mixes, falsehood (which we are re-releasing from a1s tighten up label) really buries the hatched in your brain with bits and pieces of 808s, breaks and house hi-hats all forged together like hot iron.

the proposition is a simple one. it was a 2009 when julio bashmore first remixed >heartbreaker< from deadboys classic first release - the >u cheated< ep on well rounded.
he remoulded the garage template of the original into something more immediate, replacing the swung off-beats of the original with driving forward-rhythms and a clarity of purpose that takes absolutely nothing away from the musical impact of the original. this circulated on mp3 and we smiled and danced.
unexpectedly, in 2010 jb returned to >heartbreaker< for a different interpretation. this time around a more haunting approach was the order of the day with cross-fading strings creating a soulful, otherworldly atmosphere. the drop this time also swapped sub bass for punchy 808s. a tantalising further alternative that pointed the way to this vinyl release.
back 2 back timeless brilliance for the dancefloor on our favourite format. get stuck in.

after two buzzing releases, senzen is quickly getting recognition it deserves. but third time is the charm, right? well, at least in this case. senzen 3 title track, >gonna b<, is based on studio sessions of label boss benno blome together with his long time friend armin engel, who has worked on projects with fela kutis band rhythm taxi & jimi tenor, and had a show on jazzradio berlin for years. the track itself has influences from both producers. tech house meets jazz, what a fascinating concept! freestyle drumming, keyboard jams and effects tied together, creating an original approach to club music. remixers of >gonna b<, marcin czubala (mobilee) and jin choi (contexterrior, private gold, archipel), are two of the hottest producers at the moment. after his excellent streak of releases on mobilee, marcin makes an outstanding debut on senzen and delivers a deeply rooted house remix concentrating on tiny tweaks and variations while carrying them solidly throughout the track. jin, on the other hand, doesn�t let functionality stand in the spotlight of his remix. his music is supposed to touch emotionally and to move the head and the body - and believe me, it does!
